Młode Wilki 25 TEKHNÉ Sound Sessions
Młode Wilki 25 TEKHNÉ Sound Sessions
11–18 maja 2025/ Szczecin
The Young Wolves Festival has been held annually since 2014 by the Academy of Art in Szczecin. Based on an open call for submissions, it has gained recognition as one of the most important showcases of emerging art in Poland. The Jury reviews the applications from individuals or artistic collectives (students of Polish art universities) and selects the best entries which are then featured at a group show. The authors of the awarded projects come to Szczecin to participate in the Festival events. Aside from the competitive aspect, the Young Wolves Festival thus serves as a space for interaction for the youngest generation of artists – a forum through which contemporary art students and invited guests can exchange their knowledge and experience. It provides a platform in which significant contemporary artistic, social, and political issues are critically and constructively examined within the context of an actual in-person meeting. Young Wolves Festival supports emerging artists who are at the early stages of their careers. It is an opportunity for them to gain visibility and become part of a wider artistic landscape. A number of participants of the previous editions of the Festival are now renowned artists, including: Jana Shostak, Grażyna Monika Olszewska, Adelina Cimochowicz, Bartosz Zaskórski, Marta Krześlak or Horacy Muszyński.
The 2025 edition of the Young Wolves Festival is a collaboration within the framework of the TEKHNÉ – Be Aware of Sound project, funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union and the City of Szczecin. Six European institutions involved with TEKHNÉ aim to explore the emancipatory potential of technology in music and sound art. From May 11 to 17, emerging artists from Poland, Portugal, Belgium, Latvia and Germany will meet in Szczecin. They will present their sound art projects – sound installations and objects, radio plays, audio walks, recordings of experimental music – individually and at a group show at TRAFO. The exhibition opens on May 15 (Thursday) at 7 p.m. The festival programme features lectures by invited sound art experts: Caroline Profanter (Qo2 Belgium), Jan Rohlf (CTM Festival Berlin), Antoni Michnik (Kwartalnik Konteksty, Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences), and a visual-sound event by the students of the Academy of Art in Szczecin. The project is curated by Zorka Wollny and Łukasz Jastrubczak.
